Solo Korean Foodie and Self-Care Trip: Day 1 Gangnam

If you followed my China Visa Trip nightmare, you probably know that I decided to stop by Korea first for a cheaper ticket as I await my fate to know whether or not I'll get in the motherland.
I honestly didn't really want to explore Korea as much as it was not the main goal of the trip, so I decided to use that time for self-care as Korea is known not only for their food, K-pop, alcoholism, fashion but also beauty treatments (and surgery).

As THE impulsive traveler, I basically booked everything a week before I got there. I've decided at the ripe age of 31, it's time to try some stuff on my face (that sounded weird but I'll keep it).
I've asked some friends, and I got few people suggesting Thermage, Ultherapy and Rejuran. Honestly all of them sounded scary, I heard cries of pain on the internet, but I really could not understand what they actually do or how they differed so I decided to just book a clinic that has all of them treatments and decide on the spot (true spontaneity here). I ended up booking Egg Clinic after looking through 30 of them and even making a spreadsheet lol.

I mean, look at this

I landed early after 13h of flight, went straight to the salon and only had a small Korean onigiri which was surprisingly REALLY BOMB. Highly recommend the Jeju bibimbap one from 7/11.

I've heard of the factory style, and although it was nice, the service was a bit cold/rude, felt like they trying to rush a bit, but the doctor was nice and her skin was great. I thought choosing the consultation they could tell me what's wrong with my face and say exactly how to fix it but what actually happened is they said oh your skin is good, so what are you here for. It's a compliment but I was confused now. She suggested Thermage if I want maintenance and not Ultherapy as it can make you lose facial fat and I don't have much facial fat. I agreed then went downstairs. The lady washing my face was actually kind of impatient, I was scared of the pain. Doctor was talking to me the whole time, reassuring me but the zaps were ZAPPING and skipped my jaw.

Then I decided the pain was enough and was looking at food. First food that came into my mind: CRABBBBB.

I looked at one in Gangnam: Sinsa Kkotgedang Ganjang Gejang (Soy Sauce Marinated Crab) Restaurant
신사꽃게당 본점 간장게장 전문

I mean look at this beauty:

What I like about this place is that it there was a 1-person set option where I got to try everything: crab ramen and soy marinated crab and bunch of side dishes. I highly recommend the shrimps too! 1 person set is around 45$ USD but you eat like a QUEEN.

TL;DR TIPS:

  • Download Naver maps. Google maps doesn't have walking routing for some reason.
  • Get a T-money card from convenience stores and charge it with cash. The transit system although good is a bit complicated to navigate as a foreigner, I thought it was more difficult than the japanese one, especially due to lack of Google maps.
  • Google translate camera is golden.
  • If you need anesthetic ask in advance because these treatments are PAINFUL. I asked on the spot but they said the laughing gas machine was taken already.
  • Uber and taxis are CHEAP here, don't be scared of calling.
  • Guesthouses are also pretty cheap here although going in November there weren't a lot of people so I did not make friends there.
